Prabowo Targets All Villages to Receive Electricity Access in 4 Years

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA, — President Prabowo Subianto is targeting all villages in Indonesia to receive electricity within the next 4-5 years. This instruction was delivered by Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Dadan Kusdiana during the Debriefing and Release of the Patriot Expedition Team in Jakarta on Sunday.

As of the I-2025 semester, 95.53 percent of the total 86.59 million households in Indonesia have received electricity. However, there are still about 1.28 million Rukun Tengah (RT) with more than 10,000 locations that do not have access to electricity.

Overall, 17 provinces have received PLN electricity access of nearly 99 percent, while the other 15 provinces range between 90-99 percent. Six provinces still have access below 90 percent, the majority in eastern Indonesia. There are 5,758 villages that have not been electrified and 4,310 sites that receive partial electricity.

In an effort to realize this target, the Ministry of ESDM put forward strategies such as grid extension for villages close to existing distribution networks. This strategy was considered effective for funneling electricity to hamlets and replacing Energy Efficient Solar Lights (LTSHE).

The ministry has also built micro-hydro power plants with a capacity of 100-200 kilowatts (KW) using local technology. In addition, the provision of individual Solar Power Plants (PLTS) with batteries through PLN is expected to supply electricity to remote locations with scattered settlements.

“Our experience shows that good management is indispensable so that these assets are not quickly damaged or lost,” Dadan said.
